Lukas Podolski for Arsenal, Gunners sign Podolski from Cologne

Bundesliga outfit Cologne have officially announced that German striker Lukas Podolski will be joining Arsenal for the 2012/13 season. The announcement of Podolski signing for Arsenal comes just days after another German club, Werder Bremen, broke the news of Marko Marin moving to Arsenal’s London neighbours Chelsea.
Neither Gervinho nor Park Chu-Young have set the stage on fire, meaning that skipper Robin Van Persie has had to labour on his own upfront at the Emirates this season.
Apart from Koln, Podolski has also played for FC Bayern and has already notched up close to 100 caps for Germany despite being only 26 years old

Rights from the Start

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Dear Reader

As a strong supporter of education, you know that every child has the right to education – and these rights start from birth. But every year, over 200 million children under the age of five do not receive these rights, denying them their best chance to achieve their potential and end the cycle of poverty.

This week is the Global Campaign for Education's Global Action Week and we are campaigning for Rights from the Start: early childhood care and education (ECCE). We are asking for your help to make sure these young children get the rights they are entitled to.

You can take part in this campaigning by joining us here: www.globalactionweek.org

We are asking governments for:

  • ECCE for all children, without discrimination
  • ECCE teachers to be trained and supported as professional teaching staff
  • ECCE programmes include children's educational, developmental, nutritional, health and individual needs, including through parenting support.
  • Increased investment and improved coordination in early childhood care and education
  • Donor governments must honour commitments to support all countries to achieve Education for All, especially

Over 100 countries are campaigning on this issue right now – children, teachers and parents worldwide are demanding Rights from the Start for all of the children denied access to care and education, and you can join them: www.globalactionweek.org

Every person who signs up, sends us their photos or submits their drawings will be included in the international hand-in to UNESCO at the end of May.

Thank you for your support once again!

One Goal Momentum

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Dear Reader,

Share the petitionAs a farmer myself I understand how right now farmers in my native country Togo and across Africa are facing some very big challenges.  Without sufficient investment in agriculture too many are unable to feed themselves and their communities.

So last week I went to the White House to help launch ONE's new Thrive campaign with a simple message for world leaders: Break the vicious cycle of hunger and poverty for good, when you meet at next month's G8 summit in the US.

I was joined by you and other ONE members around the world, and in just days, over 100,000 of us have signed ONE's petition to the G8.

Momentum is on our side, but we still have much work to do.

Please share this action with your friends, family and co-workers and ask them to join us:

The farmers of Togo are hard-working, innovative, resourceful women and men who give every ounce of themselves to provide for their families.

And they're exactly the sort of people G8 leaders should be supporting, by investing in proven solutions like better farming techniques, improved soil, efficient use of water and increased sharing of information across countries and cultures.

I know that proven, effective investments in African farmers can transform the continent from the ground up. Together we can see them Thrive.

Best,

Yao Afantchao

Do you agree with SC ruling reserving 25% seats for poor children in private schools?

Friday, April 13, 2012

2,00,000 voices unite for every child's right to education.

Dear Reader,

The Supreme Court has upheld the various provisions of the Right to Education Act and in it's recent landmark judgment made it clear that all schools will have to keep aside 25 per cent of seats for poor children. UNICEF belives the judgment represents a real step forward for the implementation of the Right to Education Act in the country.

By providing clarity on an issue that has been in controversy over the last two years since the RTE has been in force, we can focus on the roll-out of RTE and ensure quality education with equity for every child across India.

What do you think about Supreme Court's judgment? Do you agree or disagree with the court ruling? Share your thoughts and join the discussion on our Facebook page...

Your voice counts. Awaaz Do for every child right to education?

Speak up!

This just isn't right

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Dear Reader,

The last time you heard from me I was dropping the F bomb -- not the one you're probably thinking of. I was part of ONE's campaign to declare famine to be the real obscenity. Hundreds of thousands of ONE Members answered the call, took action, and together I think we helped make a difference.

But tens of millions of kids are still suffering from chronic hunger and malnutrition. This just isn't right.

Click here to automatically sign ONE's petition calling on the G8 to help break the vicious cycle of hunger and poverty when they meet next month:

ONE's new campaign, Thrive, calls on each of us to do our part to break the cycle of hunger and poverty, tackling their root causes. We could see 15 million fewer children chronically malnourished and 50 million people lifted out of extreme poverty – can you imagine being part of that achievement?

World leaders need to hear from us right now. Sign ONE's petition to the G8.

1 click will automatically add your name to this urgent petition:

Dear G8 leaders,
It's time to break the vicious cycle of hunger and poverty. Please urgently agree to and implement a bold global plan to ensure 50 million people escape poverty through agriculture and 15 million children no longer endure chronic malnutrition.

Yours,

Colin
