Reports have emerged that Schalke have dropped their interest in Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.
The German club admitted they were unable to agree terms on a move with the Dutch international play-maker.
“If we had really wanted to have him, then we would have got him,” said club chief Clemens Tonnies.
“But it didn’t make any sense because we were miles apart.”
