MANCHESTER UNITED 3-2 FULHAM Robin van Persie Shinji Kagawa Hugo Rodallega goals

Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa both opened their accounts as Manchester United responded to an early setback to defeat Fulham 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Premier League, but Wayne Rooney suffered a nasty injury. amien Duff scored after just three minutes as United struggled again in defence following their opening defeat at Everton, but Van Persie drew his new employers level with a brilliant finish after 10 minutes, the former Arsenal captain caressing a volley into the far corner. With Rooney unexpectedly dropped to the bench, Kagawa, a summer recruit from Borussia Dortmund, added a second from close range before the adventurous Rafael made it three with a header to give United a comfortable lead at half time. Fulham battled on bravely, however, and their ongoing endeavour was rewarded when David De Gea failed to deal with a cross from the left and Nemanja Vidic turned the ball into his own net. But while United clung on to record their first win of the season, they lost Rooney to a nasty gash on the leg in a nervy period of injury time. His thigh was opened up by the boot of Hugo Rodallega and Rooney was taken off on a stretcher, with initial estimates suggesting the striker could be absent for as much as four weeks.

It has been revealed that Santi Cazorla enjoyed his Premier League debut in the stalemate with Sunderland.

It could have been a case of  american roulette the Arsenal winger caught the eye with an impressive performance in his first appearance since arriving from Malaga.

The Spanish international said: “It felt really good making my debut. Of course, it was not the result any of us wanted, but we had chances and we did well.

“It’s a long season, so we can build on this. I had one chance and so did a few of my colleagues and that was the key to the game. We had complete control but that final step just eluded us.”

Manchester United have completed the signing of Vitesse Arnhem left-back Alexander Buttner on a five-year deal.

Buttner, 23, becomes United’s second recent Dutch acquisition following Robin van Persie’s move from Arsenal to Old Trafford last week.

The defender, who was included in a provisional Netherlands squad for Euro 2012 but did not make the final 23, arrives at Old Trafford as competition for established first choice Patrice Evra.

United allowed Brazilian full-back Fabio to join QPR on loan for the season and found themselves light in the position.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Alexander is one of the best young left-backs in Europe and we’re delighted to sign him. He’s someone we’ve been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position.”

Mikel Arteta has declared that Arsenal will survive the sale of Alex Song.

The Cameroon international defensive midfielder completed his move to Barcelona yesterday.

Arteta said: “I felt really comfortable when I played with Alex last year, he was a terrific player. But if he and the Club decided that the best option was for him to leave we have to accept it.

“I think we are good enough to carry on without him.”

It has been revealed that Chelsea hope to do business with Napoli over Edinson Cavani for £29 million.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the European champions are this week launching a bid for the Uruguay international, who has returned to Naples after a summer break following his Olympics commitment.

Chelsea are now back in contact with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis and offering £29 million for Cavani.

But the movie mogul insists his striker won’t leave for less than £40 million this month.

Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has heaped praise on new teammate Shinji Kagawa.

The Japan international caught the eye on his Premier League debut at Everton last night.

“He will be a great success, this is no doubt. I think he was born with a ball at his feet. He always has the ball and is always in the play and being creative,” Lindegaard told Ekstra Bladet.

“He is really good, I think.

“He is probably too attacking to be Scholes’ heir, but I believe that he will be a great success for United.”

Monday, August 20, 2012

Reports have emerged that Danny Welbeck is ready to pen his new contract with Manchester United.

The Sun reported that the England international striker will this week sign a new four-year contract to rubberstamp his Old Trafford future.

Welbeck’s deal is worth around £50,000 a week, treble his current wages.

But it is packed with a variety of clauses and incentives which could see it rocket to £70,000.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed Ricardo Carvalho can leave.

The former Chelsea centre back is being linked with Tottenham.

Mourinho said: “With him there are no problems or doubts. We have made that decision because I have known him since he was a child and he was not born to be a replacement. He is too good and with too much self-worth to be a replacement.

“The best solution for the end of his career is to find a club in an important league and that we try to find a club in an important league and we are trying to find a good solution for him and for us. If we reach the end of August and there is no conclusion he will be our player and we will be delighted with that.”

It has been revealed that Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo was left frustrated after their 1-1 draw with Valencia.

Real were pegged back from going ahead early on.

“We played well and created opportunities. We played well in the first half, and better in the second, but it was not to be. We had chances to score one or two more goals and get the win. This is the first match and it’s not the best result, but we must continue,” said Ronaldo.

Steven Gerrard insists that there is no reason to panic after their opening day defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

The Reds had Daniel Agger sent off as they lost 3-0 at The Hawthorns but Gerrard believes it is essential everyone looks beyond the result.

“The feeling after was one of total shock with the result. It was never a 3-0 game,” said the England international.

“I fancied us to go there, dominate and win but things didn’t work out that way. In football you can be left feeling hard done by.

“It’s not the start we wanted but it’s no time for panic. It’s only the first game and it was one bad day at the office.

“We’ve got to look at the bigger picture. There’s been so much hope around the place and rightly so.”

Reports are out claiming that Middlesbrough have snapped up Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran on-loan.

McEachran was signed by Boro this morning.

England Under-21 ace McEachran has seen his first-team chances at Chelsea limited, but he has made over 20 appearances for the club.

Lucas Biglia has again declared that he is ready to leave this month.

The Anderlecht skipper has claimed interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid this summer.

“I can leave for €8million in the current market, and that is quite a lot of money – but I agreed to this transfer fee myself so I can’t really complain,” he said.

“There are clubs ready to pay that amount but they are not better than Anderlecht so for now I focus on this club. I want to at least be playing in Europe.

“I think we could really do something in the Champions League too this year. So there are many challenges left here.”

Check out Robin van Persie’s first Manchester United interview.

The former Arsenal captain has reportedly sign a four-year deal with the Red Devils.

The 29 year old Dutch international is believed to have cost United £24 million and has joined the club in time to make his debut against Everton on Monday night.

It is reported he will earn £250,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez has revealed he’s set to join Southampton.

Ramirez has confirmed he is ready to fly to England to conclude a move to St Mary’s.

“Bologna will tell me on Friday if I can move,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The truth is that I think, yes, this time I am moving. Bologna has reached an agreement with Southampton, and there are only a few details to be found but the agreement in principle is done.”

Ramirez admits that Southampton have offered him very good terms, and he is happy to become a key player for them.

“The English club has reached an agreement with me, it is the classic offer that you cannot refuse for my life as a whole and my family.

“But they believe in me in every way, I will be essential and above all they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top-flight but they will become a big team in years to come.

“They have told me they are going to build and that is very stimulating.”

Chelsea are pushing to sign Marseille fullback Cesar Azpilicueta today.

The Spain international is a top summer target for Blues boss Roberto di Matteo and his agents are in London today for talks.

Chelsea are close to settling on a £7 million fee with l’OM for Azpilicueta.

CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda has confirmed that he is not keen on joining Italian club Lazio.

The Japan international was being heavily linked with a move to the Roman outfit in January but nothing ever eventuated and now he has suggested that if they are again keen, not to bother as it would not be a step forward for his career.

“Right now I can’t say anything about a transfer. But in considering what I want in my future, the image I had at 20 is different from the one I have at 26. My end goal hasn’t changed. All I can say is that even if Lazio approached me, I wouldn’t go,” Honda told Nikkan.

“Back then [during the January transfer window], Lazio had a shot at qualifying for the Champions League. But they did not get there. In the first half of the year I was 25, now I’m 26. A lot changes in half a year.

“Initially I’d planned on showing off my skills at the World Cup and leaving Russia after half a year, but since then two years have passed.

“It’s like running 30 kilometres in a marathon to find out that you’re off your pace. If you’re running behind, you might look for a different path to take. If I hop on a car the rest of the way, I’ll still struggle to reach my goal. If my pace is slow, I have to run faster. And in that respect I won’t go to Lazio.”

Manchester City are closing in on AS Roma star Daniele De Rossi.

The Italy midfielder has been a long-term target for City boss Roberto Mancini.

Sky Sports says the midfielder’s agent on Thursday flew to England for talks with City officials.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed that Clint Dempsey wants to leave the club.

The USA international, who has been linked with Liverpool, has been looking for a move away from Craven Cottage for most of the summer and now Jol has made it clear that the Southwest London club are prepared to sell him for the appropriate fee.

“If we get the right price for Clint we will sell him. If not, he will stay,” said Jol ahead.

Dempsey is expected to play in Fulham’s Premier League season opener against Norwich City at home but after that his future is certainly still clouded with Liverpool non-committal on purchasing the Texan.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been fined £45,000 for comments he made on Twitter recently.

The centre-back reacted amusingly to another users post regarding Ashley Cole as a ‘choc-ice’ which caused a lot of controversy at the Football Association offices.

The slang term, describing the Chelsea full-back as ‘black on the outside, white on the inside’, is believed to derogatory and Ferdinand has now been fined for his part in the social networking incident.

“The Commission decided that the comment was improper and brought the game into disrepute,” read a statement on the FA’s official website.

“In addition, the Commission found that the breach included a reference to ethnic origin, colour or race. Ferdinand was fined £45,000 and warned as to his future conduct.”

Chelsea can back up their European title with this season’s Premier League trophy says Juan Mata.

The Spanish midfielder is well aware that it will be a difficult season for the Blues following their Champions League/FA Cup double last term but feels that Fernando Torres and new signing Eden Hazard are ready to fire in the absence of the departed Didier Drogba.

“Our main challenge this season is to win the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports.

“It won’t be easy because the big clubs have reinforced their squads, and I expect a hard campaign.

“Chelsea have worked well in the transfer market and now it is important for the new men to settle quickly.

“We will miss Drogba because he is a legend of the club but now is the moment for Torres and I have total faith in him.

“I also know the work of Hazard and really this man could be one of the positive surprises of the season.”

It has been revealed that Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is proud to be named new club captain.

The Belgium international defender has inherited the armband on a full-time basis following Robin van Persie’s departure, and is delighted to be starting a new chapter in his career.

“It makes me really happy and proud to be Arsenal captain – it’s a real honour,” the Belgian says in his programme notes for Saturday’s match with Sunderland.

“I won’t change the way I am, though. The boss makes you captain because of the way you are, so I won’t change how I am in the dressing room or outside. I want to lead by example, and do as well as I can on the pitch.

“Maybe I am not much of a talker away from the pitch, but I want to lead the team through the way I play.”

Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria has declared that he is a better player for working with Jose Mourinho.

The Argentine international winger penned a new deal with Real this month.

“With the coach I’ve grown in every way. I’m better tactically and I have more faith in the things I do. The trust he has shown in me since the first day is spectacular and I only have words of gratitude for him,” the winger told Marca.

“There is no doubt that Mourinho is a coach very special to me. With him I have improved each year and it pains me that because of injuries last season I could not give more. ”

Reports are out claiming that Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente has resisted interest from England.

The Spanish international recently announced that he wants to leave Bilbao this month with less than a year to run on his contract.

Gazzetta dello Sport now claim that the 27-year-old has rejected a switch to England, where Arsenal were interested after losing Bianconeri target Robin Van Persie to Manchester United.

A plucky defender has made himself a hero among fans after pulling off a stunning penalty save deep into injury time.

Hungarian top-flight team Honved were clinging desperately to a 1-0 lead in their match against arch-rivals Videoton, and as the clock ticked into injury time it seemed they had done enough to collect all three points.

But just as the final whistle was about to blow, Honved goalkeeper Szabolcs Kemenes lost his head and brought down former Crystal Palace striker Sandor Torghelle in the box.

Referee Zsolt Szabo had little option but to point to the spot and send Kemenes off – and with all three of the side’s substitutions having been made, Honved’s Croatian defender Ivan Lovric was asked to don the gloves to try and save Nemanja Nikolic’s spot-kick.

The 27-year-old stepped up to the mark in stunning style, however, using all of his 6’4″ frame to launch himself off towards the bottom right corner and secure an incredible win for his team.

The victory leaves Honved on top of the table after three matches, and though it’s still early in the season fans are unlikely to forget Lovric’s heroics should they finish the season as champions.

Sensational news are out claiming that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to make one more signing this month.

The Scottish tactician welcomed Robin van Persie from Arsenal yesterday.

“I think that is maybe it [in terms of signings this summer],” he told MUTV.

“Maybe in one other position.

“We have spent a big amount of money and, if I need to go to the owners, I am sure they would say ‘yes’. But it’s only if a certain player would become available.”

Reports are out claiming that Zenit St Petersburg won’t be pushing through a deal for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov’s agent has been in talks with Zenit about a move to Russia this month.

But the Daily Mail says Zenit are not keen on Berbatov.

It has been revealed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains confident of signing Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.

It is said that the Turkish international midfielder would arrive as a replacement for Barcelona target Alex Song.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal are confident that Champions League football will persuade the Real Madrid midfielder to join them ahead of Liverpool.
