Uruguay striker Luis Suarez could face action after he was caught on camera aiming a jab into the face of Chile’s Gonzalo Jara during their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Suarez, who has courted controversy in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool, was on the losing side as Esteban Paredes and Eduardo Vargas gave Jorge Sampaoli’s Chile a 2-0 win, but hit the headlines again as he seemed to punch Jara while tussling for a corner.
The referee took no action over the incident, but did book the Liverpool striker for protesting later in the game and he will miss the next qualifying duel against Venezuela as a result.
It now appears that CONMEBOL, the South American branch of FIFA, will wait for referee Nestor Pitana’s report to determine whether or not action against Suarez should be taken, or if a complaint from Jara is forthcoming.

The 23 year old Montenegro international is being scouted extensively by the Gunners.
He told The Sun: “I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest. It’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that.
“I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe. It’s not easy to replace Van Persie, who scored a lot of goals.
“Arsenal have plenty of players who don’t score like Van Persie, but are also very good.
“They are still very strong. I often watch Premier League games on TV. It’s one of the best leagues in the world and looks tempting for me.”

The 27 year old explained to L’Equipe : “Depression? I am not afraid to say that. It was that,”.

“But I was reassured reading the books of Jonny Wilkinson and Rafael Nadal, who both talked about the same thing. They talked about post competition depression and the need to have a break.

“Euro 2012 was the first big international competition I had played. It is completely different than what you could experience in daily life with your club.

“I asked myself a lot of questions. As long as you didn’t experience it [depression] you cannot understand. But I was not worried.

“My injury allowed me to have some rest, meet my family and friends in Lille. When I was back in Newcastle in December I knew I felt better, but I never complained to anyone but my entourage.”

“Normally I would sign for summer, I think that’s what everybody expected. But I wanted to adapt as quick as possible. These few months that I’ve got now, they are very important for me to settle in in England, to know the players, to get into the game.

“Then from summer on I think it’s going to be a different challenge, because we start pre-season and everybody starts by zero, so I think it’s different.”

Liverpool have announced that midfielder Joe Allen should be available for pre-season training in the summer after undergoing surgery to solve his shoulder problem.

Glen Driscoll, Liverpool’s head of performance, told the club’s official website on Thursday: “Joe Allen had surgery this morning, which went very well.
“It’s going to be a relief for Joe that this has now happened for him. It has been quite a long-standing issue. He was repetitively subluxing, so his shoulder was coming out very easily and very often.
“It was a procedure that was very important. He should be fighting fit for the start of pre-season.”
