BAYERN KEEN ON THOMAS ROSICKY MOVE

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Bayern Munich are back in the running for Tomas Rosicky. The Arsenal midfielder's contract expires at the end of this season and the 33-year-old veteran Czech playmaker has yet to sign an extension. That's led to speculation in some quarters that Rosicky could be tempted by a move to Germany to see out his days with Bayern, who have long been linked with the player.

The London Evening Standard claims that the reigning European and German champions are considering a surprise move for the Czech Republic international.

Arsenal remain confident that Rosicky will commit his future to the club but Bayern’s involvement will test their resolve. Sources in Germany claim that while Pep Guardiola is thought to be an admirer of Rosicky’s, the club’s interest comes from a more senior level.

Bayern wanted to sign Rosicky as far back as 2001 when the midfielder was at Sparta Prague but Borussia Dortmund won the race for his signature for a fee of 14.5million euros.

He became the most expensive player in Bundesliga history and in his first full season Dortmund won the League title. Rosicky joined Arsenal in 2006 for £7m but Bayern continued to monitor his progress and the prospect of his availability on a free transfer has once again sparked their interest.

A deal is improbable with Rosicky thought to be happy at Arsenal but Bayern hope a move to the current European champions — who the Gunners face in the last 16 – will tempt him to Bavaria.

The timing of Bayern’s interest emerging lends itself to the possibility that Rosicky’s camp are using Bayern’s interest to leverage a better deal at Arsenal.

Though he's started only seven  Premier League matches this season, Rosicky is highly valued by Arsene Wenger, who often turns to his experience in the second half of matches.

NAPOLI AND HAMMERS IN PURSUIT OF THOMAS VERMAELEN

Napoli have made a move for Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The Daily Mail reported that Arsenal have rejected an enquiry from Napoli for out-of-favour defender Vermaelen.

Arsene Wenger would not want the Belgium international to leave while Arsenal are involved in the chase for domestic and European honours, but the player will be aware that his World Cup place is under threat if he is not playing regularly.

West Ham United have reportedly made an ambitious loan bid for Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

It is said that the Hammers have enquired about the possibility of loaning the Belgian centre-back for the remainder of the season as their defensive crisis continues.

The 28 year old has hardly featured for the Gunners this campaign, making just three starts in the Premier League, with manager Arsene Wenger preferring Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in central defence.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is in desperate need of some defensive cover following injuries to the likes of Winston Reid, George McCartney, Guy Demel and Joey O’Brien.

ARSENAL'S TRANSFER MARKET ACTIVITY SO FAR

Marco Reus
Tottenham are ready to compete for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus.

The Sunday Mirror reported that the German international is a target for both Manchester United and Arsenal and his value is around £28million.

But Tottenham will enter the race if Dortmund decide to cash in on his talents.

Tottenham will wait until the end of the season before strengthening their squad with Reus, 24, the number one target.

Julian Draxler
Manchester United boss David Moyes is considering joining the battle for Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler.

The Daily Star Sunday revealed that the German international is already an Arsenal target but the 20 year old is unlikely to move in this transfer window as he has a ruptured muscle and is out until March.

He carries a £37 million buyout clause in his contract.

Reports are out claiming that Fiorentina winger Juan Guillermo Cuadrado is interesting Arsenal.

TMW revealed that the Gunners have made initial enquiries for the 25 year old Colombian international.

It is said that Arsenal scouts were in Italy on the weekend to run the rule over the former

Diego De Girolamo
Sheffield United teenage striker Diego De Girolamo is a top target for Premier League clubs.

Diego De Girolamo

The Daily Mail reported that the 18 year old, who was being closely monitored by Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, caused a stir in 2012 when he opted to play for Italy U18s instead of England after receiving a personal call from the great AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi.

Diego qualified for Italy through his father Cosimo who is from Naples.

A 10-month recovery ensued but he returned to play an hour for Sheffield United’s U21s against Stoke earlier this month before a run out against Coventry U18s last week. He scored two goals in 13 minutes before over extending his knee and coming off as a precaution.

However, he has been training with Sheffield United’s first-team squad and is hoping for a place on the bench against Bradford with an eye on facing Fulham in the FA Cup also.

Liverpool and Everton, alerted by his return to fitness, are also due to send scouts to watch De Girolamo.

Salomon Kalou
Tottenham are going for Lille attacker Salomon Kalou.

The Daily Mail claims that Tottenham are set for talks over a £2.6m deal for Kalou, 28, the former Chelsea forward.

The Ivory Coast international is ready to move back to the Premier League after Spurs boss Tim Sherwood declared his interest in the striker.

Kalou is expected to hold talks in London on Friday.

Sebastian Giovinco
Agent of Sebastian Giovinco has confirmed contact with Arsenal for the Juventus midfielder.

With a growing injury list at the Emirates the idea of a loan deal for the Italian midfielder until the end of the season was floated with the player.

Claudio Pasqualin, Giovinco’s agent, has reiterated that there has been contact, but said a move is far from a done deal.

Pasqualin said: “There’s been a request for information but a deal is still far from being done.

“It is logical that that the interest of a club like Arsenal is flattering and something to be proud of, but, once again, at the moment there are no negotiations underway between Juventus and the Gunners.

“Could Giovinco leave Juventus in January? Absolutely not, that hypothesis can be excluded.”

Munir El Haddadi
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is being linked with another swoop for a Barcelona youngster.
It is said that the Frenchman is showing considerable interest in 18-year old Munir El Haddadi who is also a reported target for Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The Spanish giants are hoping to secure El Haddadi to a long-term deal but Wenger’s penchant for developing youngsters may turn the head of the talented teenager of Moroccan descent.

Arsenal vs Fulham 2014 Key Facts and Post Match Review

ARSENAL V FULHAM : HEAD TO HEAD
Fulham have never won away at Arsenal in any competition, losing 22 of the 27 visits to the Gunners. They have, however, drawn the last two.

Darren Bent has scored eight goals in his last 10 appearances in all competitions against Arsenal, including five in the last four.

Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski have both scored three goals in three Barclays Premier League appearances against Fulham.

There have been four red cards in the last six Premier League meetings between these London rivals, but all of them have come at Craven Cottage.

This match will be Arsenal’s 200th Premier League London derby (W103 D55 L41 F338 A190) and their 100th on home soil (W58 D25 L16 F184 A91). They have averaged more points per game (1.83) from London derbies than any other team, while only Palace (0.90) have averaged fewer per match than Fulham (0.93).

Arsenal have kept seven clean sheets in their last eight games in all competitions at the Emirates Stadium, conceding just one goal in the other match during this run.

Fulham have allowed 133 shots on target this season, more than any other club in the Premier League.

Arsenal can match their best run of the season with a win in this game (five wins in a row).

This would be the 19th time Arsenal have won 5+ Premier League games in a row.

Arsenal have played 39 through balls this season (a joint-high with Liverpool), Fulham have played only eight.

KEY STATS

This is Fulham’s 15th loss in their first 22 PL matches – since the Premier League was reduced to 20 teams in 1995/96, no side has survived relegation when losing 15 or more of their first 22 PL matches of a season.

Santi Cazorla’s last seven goals in all competitions for Arsenal have all come at home.

Fulham have now conceded 48 goals, the most ever by a non-promoted side in the PL after 22 matches. It is the most by a non-promoted side in the top-flight since West Brom’s 53 goals conceded after 22 matches in 1985/86.

Arsenal win for the fifth consecutive match in the Premier League (home and away), for the second time this season (also won five in a row between 24 Aug and 28 Sept). Their total of 51 points is the best Arsenal have had after 22 matches since ‘The Invincibles’ of 2003/04 (52), alongside 2007/08 and 1932/33 (also 51).

KEY MOMENTS

2 – Ozil chance – Ozil is fed inside the box but drags his effort wide. Great ball from Wilshere.

25 – Sidwell volley – Berbatov races down the right and sweeps it into the box but Sagna heads clear. Sidwell meets the clearance on the volley and Szczesny has to palm it away.

38 – Double stop – Cazorla takes the free-kick and lashes it into the wall. It breaks to Sagna who draws a parry from Stekelenburg and Giroud looks certain to open the scoring but Stekelenburg manages to get up and make the double stop.

56 – Double miss – Cazorla swings a free-kick to the far post that Sagna fires back across the box. A Fulham players clears but it falls to Koscielny who misses from six yards. The ball then falls to Gnabry who sees his effort blocked.

57’ – GOAL – Cazorla comes off the left and feeds Giroud, who in turns finds Wilshere inside the box and Cazorla continues his run to meet the square ball from Wilshere and open the scoring.

62’ – GOAL – Monreal is in acres down the left here but his cross is poor. The headed clearance from Hangeland falls to Cazorla, who instantly takes a touch and fires past Stekelenburg from outside the box.

89 – Bent miss – Darren Bent misses a sitter. Good grief. He gets to a ball over the top before Szczesny and while the angle is tight, there is no reason why he should miss from there.

TALKING POINT:

Can this Arsenal side claim the title? There is no doubt that Arsenal are serious contenders. No doubt. They are winning all sorts of games and after a poor start but Fulham to the sword. This is the stuff of champions.

MAN OF THE MATCH:

Santi Cazorla (Arsenal): A double from the diminutive playmaker to cap another fine, inventive display.

WHAT'S ON THE ARSENAL SHOPPING LIST

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Arsenal are among this season’s Premier League title contenders (the league is still wide open) and could be forced into a signing race after the recent injuries to Olvier Giroud, Niklas Bendtner and the latest after FA Cup match with Spurs - Theo Walcott. Previous attempts of Arsène Wenger failed to sign Liverpool talisman Luis Suárez in the summer and they may look abroad for a striker.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is difficult to work in the January transfer market. The Frenchman feels he’ll never get value for money during the winter transfer window.

“We are like everyone, we look out there and see what is happening. If an opportunity turns up, you know as well that all the big players are at big clubs at the moment and they go for important targets. “Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation it will be difficult. “If we find someone like Gnabry at that age when no one knows them, then maybe. But I just said many times we don’t rule anything out.” If you fancy Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season Arsenal are a best priced 9/2 with Sky Bet at the time of writing behind clear favourites Man City 10/11 and Chelsea at 7/2. If you are having a punt, now would be a good chance to claim the £30 Sky Bet free bet and have a bet to nothing in anticipation of Arsenal bolstering their squad in the next transfer window.

Here are the probables..

Diego Costa
The Atletico Madrid striker is widely thought to have a £32million buy-out clause, but the Arsenal boss believes he would cost about £145m or more
Mirror Sport asked Wenger whether he would consider trying to sign Costa in January to solve his striker crisis.
“What, £145m?!” he laughed. “Honestly, you want to keep your chances in the season at the best possible level.”
Arsenal's scouting missions on Costa and even revealed last August that they started looking at him as a back-up option for their main summer target Luis Suarez.

Mario Mandzukic
It has been reported that Arsenal and Manchester United are being linked with Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s keen on bringing Mandzukic to England this month, but will face competition from United should he become available.

Mandzukic has scored 12 goals in 21 games for Bayern this season, but has seen his long-term future in Munich under threat from Robert Lewandowski, who will join in the summer from Borussia Dortmund.
United boss David Moyes has been following Mandzukic since he was in charge of Everton and is waiting for encouragement from Bayern to revive his interest.

Berbatov
Berbatov, whose contract expires in the summer and is free to talk to clubs now, is attracted by a move to the Gunners. Indeed, representatives of the Bulgarian international have made contact with Arsenal.

Clement Grenier
Arsene Wenger is weighing up a move for Olympique Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier. TMW claims that the French giants are thought to be willing to listen to offers in the region of €12-15m, with Gunners scout Gilles Grimandi keeping a close eye on Grenier. Wenger failed with an attempt to sign the French international in August and is now contemplating, whether to try again this month.

Julian Draxler
Arsenal remain locked in talks with Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. The German international recently had a tour of Arsenal’s London Colney training facilities as he might make a move to London this year. Arsenal made a deadline day attempt for Draxler in August and a move this month cannot be ruled out, though a summer switch is more likely.

Only time will tell, what comes Arsenal's way, with club posting strong financial results, and the management backing the manager, money should flow fast and thick, and the Arsenal fans can hope a quality signings coming in ...
