WHAT'S ON THE ARSENAL SHOPPING LIST

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Arsenal are among this season’s Premier League title contenders (the league is still wide open) and could be forced into a signing race after the recent injuries to Olvier Giroud, Niklas Bendtner and the latest after FA Cup match with Spurs - Theo Walcott. Previous attempts of Arsène Wenger failed to sign Liverpool talisman Luis Suárez in the summer and they may look abroad for a striker.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is difficult to work in the January transfer market. The Frenchman feels he’ll never get value for money during the winter transfer window.

“We are like everyone, we look out there and see what is happening. If an opportunity turns up, you know as well that all the big players are at big clubs at the moment and they go for important targets. “Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation it will be difficult. “If we find someone like Gnabry at that age when no one knows them, then maybe. But I just said many times we don’t rule anything out.” If you fancy Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season Arsenal are a best priced 9/2 with Sky Bet at the time of writing behind clear favourites Man City 10/11 and Chelsea at 7/2. If you are having a punt, now would be a good chance to claim the £30 Sky Bet free bet and have a bet to nothing in anticipation of Arsenal bolstering their squad in the next transfer window.

Here are the probables..

Diego Costa
The Atletico Madrid striker is widely thought to have a £32million buy-out clause, but the Arsenal boss believes he would cost about £145m or more
Mirror Sport asked Wenger whether he would consider trying to sign Costa in January to solve his striker crisis.
“What, £145m?!” he laughed. “Honestly, you want to keep your chances in the season at the best possible level.”
Arsenal's scouting missions on Costa and even revealed last August that they started looking at him as a back-up option for their main summer target Luis Suarez.

Mario Mandzukic
It has been reported that Arsenal and Manchester United are being linked with Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s keen on bringing Mandzukic to England this month, but will face competition from United should he become available.

Mandzukic has scored 12 goals in 21 games for Bayern this season, but has seen his long-term future in Munich under threat from Robert Lewandowski, who will join in the summer from Borussia Dortmund.
United boss David Moyes has been following Mandzukic since he was in charge of Everton and is waiting for encouragement from Bayern to revive his interest.

Berbatov
Berbatov, whose contract expires in the summer and is free to talk to clubs now, is attracted by a move to the Gunners. Indeed, representatives of the Bulgarian international have made contact with Arsenal.

Clement Grenier
Arsene Wenger is weighing up a move for Olympique Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier. TMW claims that the French giants are thought to be willing to listen to offers in the region of €12-15m, with Gunners scout Gilles Grimandi keeping a close eye on Grenier. Wenger failed with an attempt to sign the French international in August and is now contemplating, whether to try again this month.

Julian Draxler
Arsenal remain locked in talks with Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. The German international recently had a tour of Arsenal’s London Colney training facilities as he might make a move to London this year. Arsenal made a deadline day attempt for Draxler in August and a move this month cannot be ruled out, though a summer switch is more likely.

Only time will tell, what comes Arsenal's way, with club posting strong financial results, and the management backing the manager, money should flow fast and thick, and the Arsenal fans can hope a quality signings coming in ...
