Italy is famous for producing top goalkeepers in the past and now it has a new goalkeeper rising on the horizon. It is none other than Mattia Perin.
The youngster was born on the 10th of November 1992 in Latina Italy and is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Serie A club Pescara, on loan from Genoa.
Youth and Professional Career
Mattia Perin is a product of the Genoa youth system. He started off his footballing career with Genoa in 2008 at the age of 16.
He was then promoted to first team squad on January 2010, as a third-choice goalkeeper, and received the 88 jersey.
He appeared on the bench in the matches against Grosseto (20 October 2010), Vicenza (24 November), Inter (12 January 2011) and Lazio (14 May).
He made his professional and Serie A debut on 22 May 2011, playing as a starter in the 3-2 home victory against Cesena.
On July 2011, he was loaned to Serie B club Padova and made his Serie B debut on 1 October 2011, playing as a starter in the away match won 4–2 against Empoli.
On summer 2012, he was loaned to Pescara, newly promoted in Serie A.
Mattia Perin is a regular for the Italian international youth side. He has made regular appearance for the U17, U18, U19, U20 and the U21 squad.
The talented youngster received his first call up for the Italian senior team by head coach Cesare Prandelli, for the friendly match against England held on 15 August 2012 in Bern.
Style of Play
Mattia Perin has been dubbed as the next Gianluigi Buffon. It will definitely be a big pair of boots to fill but the youngster has shown some promising signs.
Perin is almost the same height as Buffon and in known for his speed and agility. He is a good shot-stopper and is very good in one-on-one situations.
Like all top goalkeepers in the world, Perin is extremely brave and has good ability to organize the defence before him.
