Marcel Schmelzer has been tipped to sign a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund that will keep him at the club until 2016.

The 24-year-old has been with the Bundesliga champions all his professional career and has made 150 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The Germany international defender was due to fall out of contract at the end of the 2013-2014 campaign but, according to sources in Germany, will soon pen a new deal keeping him at the Westfalenstadion for at least another two seasons after his deal was due to expire.
Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc is clearly a big fan of the left-back and feels he is now a vital member of the side.
“Marcel has become an important cornerstone for us,” he told Kicker. “He has stepped up tactically and improved in one-on-one situations. He is extremely important for the team.”
